Bristol Pitbulls will go with two imports for the upcoming season after David Manning has agreed to join Janne Virtanen at the club.
League rules allow teams to sign as many imports as they wish, but only one import may be included in the squad for each game. However, carrying two imports will ensure that the Pitbulls will always be able to play one import, regardless of injury or availability.
For Virtanen, this will be his ninth season with the team. Joining in 2010 when Pitbulls started up their development team, the Finn has been an intrinsic part of the Pitbulls squad ever since. His 164 games place him eighth on the all-time appearance list.
For Manning, this will be his first season after playing for Cardiff Fire last season.
Originally from Adelaide, he will be the second Australian to play for the team after Adrian Esposito skated out for Bristol in their first season. However, Manning’s career has taken him across the globe, including teams in Sweden, America, Canada and France. He even played 10 games for the NIHL North’s Billingham Stars in 2012.
