The race for the final NIHL2S playoff spot couldn’t be tighter as the regular season enters the final weekend.
After Cardiff’s 4-2 loss to Bracknell on Sunday night, one point splits the three teams fighting for the right to face Oxford in the playoff quarter finals.
This Saturday, Haringey host Cardiff at the Ally Pally. Therefore, one of those two teams will definitely finish the season on two more points. It’s entirely possible that game will go to OT, giving a “loser point” to the other team.
So what does this mean for Bristol?
Pitbulls remain in control. Given that they have a better head-to-head record against Cardiff, if they can pick up three points from their two outstanding games, they will be in the playoffs regardless of what happens elsewhere. However, we are still unsure what the outcome is going to be from last weekend’s postponed trip to Peterborough.
Strictly speaking, Bristol could still qualify with just one more point. That will require Cardiff to beat Haringey in regulation time and Swindon to win in Cardiff the next night. Not an impossible set of results given Swindon’s recent form.
Given that Swindon game is the day after Bristol’s trip to Bracknell, the boys need as many as possible to come along and make some noise to ensure they leave with the two points and keep the pressure on Cardiff and Haringey.
We hope to see you all there!
